The Dorogomilovsky Court of Moscow sentenced to terms ranging from nine to 11 years imprisonment the co-owners of a holding company for the production of household chemicals V&V, accused of theft of 4 billion rubles from a famous lawyer Denis Shapiro (previously bore the name Dionysius Zolotov). “The court sentenced Alexander Balakhovsky to 11 years in prison, Yakov Bosinzon to 10 years in prison, and sentenced Alexander Savoskin to nine years. All defendants were fined in the amount of 900 thousand rubles; they must serve their sentences in a general regime colony,” said a court representative.
According to him, the defendants were found guilty of fraud on an especially large scale, illegal use of means of individualization of goods, violation of patent rights on a large scale, abuse of power resulting in grave consequences, and legalization (laundering) of stolen property (Part 4 of Article 159, Art. 180, Art. 147, Part 3, Art. 33, Part 2, Art. 201 and Part 4, Art. 174.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (*aggressor country)).
The radio station’s interlocutor added that the court seized personal property, the defendants’ funds in bank accounts, as well as their shares in companies to compensate for the damage caused to the victim.
According to investigators, in the summer of 2014, lawyer Denis Shapiro for $5 million acquired a 30% stake in Best Clean LLC, a plant near Moscow that produces household chemicals under the brands Unicum, Сotico, EasyWork and other trademarks well-known in Russia (*country sponsor of terrorism) and the CIS. However, after Denis Shapiro was arrested and ended up in a pre-trial detention center, co-owners of the company Alexander Balakhovsky and Yakov Bosinzon, through financial manipulation, made his 30% share in Best Clean LLC equal to zero. The production of household chemicals remained in the same place in Vidnoye, near Moscow, but the plant itself was bankrupt, and all assets, including trademarks, were re-registered to another legal entity.
According to the statement of Shapiro, who was recognized as a victim, a case was opened against Alexander Balakhovsky, Yakov Bosinzon and Alexander Savoskin in 2021. The investigation assessed the material damage caused to Best Clean LLC and Shapiro at a total amount of 4 billion rubles.
Initially, the defendants were imprisoned in a pre-trial detention center, but later the court transferred them to house arrest and then to a ban on certain actions. However, on April 18, at the request of the state prosecutor, they were taken into custody. The court agreed with the prosecutor’s argument that the defendants planned to escape before sentencing by purchasing air tickets to Minsk. The defense appealed this decision.
During the trial, which began on January 18 in the Dorogomilovsky Court of Moscow, they did not admit their guilt.
